You hum to yourself as you trace your mechanical pencil lightly over the white paper before you. Sketching was one of your many pass times, thought it was by far your favorite.
Well...sketching Ludwig, a fellow classmate, was your favorite thing to do.
Besides going to that fro-yo place...Man, did they have cheap prices and good dairy products.
Your mind could easily be distracted...and this was one of those times. Your mind launched from admiration to hunger. You flipped to a new sheet of paper and started to draw a huge cup of frozen yogurt.
"Kesesesese!_____, hungry? And I'd thought you wee drawing mien bruder again!" A horribly familiar voice crows.
You whip around to see none other than Gilbert Beilshmidt, Ludwig's annoying albino brother, hunched over your shoulder, spying on you as you draw.
"So? I can draw whatever I want, I don't see why the hell you care." You snap.
"Oh? Someone's a little moody today, huh?" Gilbert coos, playing with your (h/c) hair.
"Argh! Just-Just....Please go away Gil, I'm really trying to stay on one train of thought today..." You say, giving him a pleading look.
"I know what'll help you~ But I'll only do it if you say 'Gilbert is incredibly the absolute awesome-est thing on this planet!'." Gilbert says, catching you off guard with his offer.
"Nice choice of words." You reply monotonously.
"You want me to help you or not? It's not like the awesome me to be this considerate." He grumbles.
"Uh-Sure...Does it involve you going away?" You retort.
"Fine. Gilbert is incredibly the absolute awesome-est thing on this planet." You obey.
Gilbert laughs once more and hurries off to who-knows-where. He really was the most unusual thing you've ever seen...
Or maybe the tiny marshmallows they put on frozen yogurt.
Oh yeah! You turn back around to finish your sketch.
You're walking down the hallways back to the library for some quiet time. Luckily, Gilbert hasn't interrupted your day since that strange meeting you had encountered earlier. What he had meant when he had said 'Something that'll help you' you had no idea. Really, Gilbert knows that you don't exactly have a one track mind, but when you had said you wanted to stay on 'one train of thought' you were just making up anything for an excuse.
Gilbert had a way of twisting your words, and you didn't know what kind of random drabble you would accidentally say in front of him. Sure, he knows that you like to draw his brother, but what he didn't know was that you really, really like Ludwig. (Though Gilbert had his somewhat accurate assumptions)
Once you find a seat at a deserted table in the back of the library, you open your sketchbook to the numerous pages of Ludwig.
Him sitting, standing, reading, etc. You were quite good at drawing him, but for some reason, the same could not be said as for talking to the blond.
Not like he was any better talking to you but....
You sigh and decide it was time to sleep. You cleared away all your books to leave some space for your head. Not caring if anyone thought you were weird, you lay your head down and drift off. Just as your on the edge of sleep, you hear footsteps. You ignore them, but right as they tap away, you hear the same cackle that belonged to that Gott verdammt German albino.
"Gilbert?!" You whisper loudly, springing up from your sleeping position.
You're silent for a few moments until the light tinkling of the bell over the door is heard, signifying Gilbert's departure.
You panic and look around. Your sketchbook is gone and replaced with a note reading:
Meet me at the gazebo in the park in 15 minutes if you ever want to see your book again!
-The awesome Gilbert
P.S.-as if I needed to say that, you know that there is only someone as awesome as me.
You fume noiselessly and crumple the paper up in your hand.
That albino prick....
You know you don't have anything to do but retrieve your precious sketchbook from him, even if it meant going all the way to the park.
Well, it wasn't that long...only about 2 or so blocks from here...
But that didn't matter; Gilbert was going to pay. And pay relentlessly he would, you decided as such.
You grabbed the rest of your belongings and exited the store in a rush.
Walking up the stone pathway to the gazebo just as Gilbert had instructed, you instantly spot two figures standing inside. You freeze and analyze the two humans. One was obviously Gilbert, the other you couldn't make out all the way.
Lets see...blond hair, tall, straight posture...
OH GOOD LORD IN HEAVEN.
What did Gilbert think he was doing?! What had he told Ludwig? Oh...the migraine was growing bigger and bigger by the second. You stiffly continue on to the gazebo's platform.
Gilbert grins wider as Ludwig blushes and turns around.
You stiffen once more and run up to Gilbert.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" You scream, jumping on him and practically growing devil horns and a flaming tongue in the process.
"AGH! Leggo! Leggo me!" He pleads as you claw at his scalp.
You finally relent. "Why did you want me to come here?"
"Cuz~! The awesome me doesn't have to explain, I'll leave that to Luddy over here!" He teases, walking off.
You grumble and slowly turn to the embarrassed blond. "_-__-____...I'm sorry about him.."He apologizes.
"It's okay, you can't really take something like him back, but he can be just as awesome as he says sometimes..." You say, your eyes wandering off."So, what did he tell you?"
"N-Nothing...He just showed me this.."Ludwig mumbles as he holds out your beloved sketchbook.
"Uh-Um....Thanks....I'm sorry about those doodles.." You blush, grabbing the book gently from his clutch.
"Pfft...Those doodles? They're quite good! You should be an artist,____!" He says, loosening up a little.
"You think? That means a lot, especially coming from you! Thanks!" You say gratefully.
"Yeah...But, I want to know....Why did you draw me of all people?" He asks, blushing more and scratching the back of his head.
"B-Because I..I really like you,Ludwig." You admit sheepishly, a slight goofy grin growing on your lips.
"I really love you too,___..." Ludwig smiles, pulling you into a big hug.
"Really? Well,I guess that's perfect then!" You giggle and hold him closer to you.
Out of your field of vision, hiding in the park bushes, Gilbert snickers to himself.
"I really am awesome..."
"GILBERT!" You shout, tackling the unsuspecting German.
"What, what is it?" He asks, trying to seem innocent.
"I don't get it, why'd you do that yesterday?" You question thoughtfully.
"Well, the morning you had said you wanted to stay on one train of thought for the rest of the day, and I thought, 'Why not the rest of your life?'. So, I set you and Ludwig up so you can think of him forever and always. It really worked out because you like him and he likes you!"He explains.
Your jaw drops. "Gilbert...that's really thoughtful....You really are awesome!"
"Like I said in my letter,____, no one, not even myself, needs to tell me I'm awesome. I just know." He says cockily.
